30 Hour Famine

The J Walkers will be participating in the 30 Hour Famine on April 24 to the 25th. This means that we will be raising money for World Vision to help fight world hunger. We will also raise awareness of hunger by fasting for 30 hours during our Lock-in on the 24th and 25th. (At our lock-in, we will be painting the youth wing at our church.) Please consider making a donation to World Vision. You can visit our groups website by clicking the link below, or contact Laura Wanke to make a donation.

Takemasak!

Matthew 25:30 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. As we traveled to Grounds for Life, I was expecting to see people gathering to receive food. What I did not expect was to meet such grateful and friendly people. God calls us to feed those in need, but most importantly he calls us to welcome them. On Saturday, it dawned on me, that these people welcomed me into their world. Not only that, they taught me what it truly means to be grateful for what God gives us. I can't not wait to go back to see everyone again. Come join us on Friday, November 21st from 6 to 6:30 at the Methodist Church to prepare lunches. On Saturday, November 22nd, be at the church no later than 7am to follow the caravan to Grounds for Life church, where we will be handing out the lunches.

Spread the Word

Well J Walkers 2014 will be starting soon. I don't know about you, but I always think, the more the merrier! So lets invite our friends to join us at J Walkers for some fun this year! Mark 16:15 “And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.’” The easiest way for you to spread the word, is to invite your friends to fun and fellowship. This year I want us to pave our own way. To make some of our own traditions. We will still buddy up for some of the big events with KOTK. (Hayrack Ride,Christmas Caroling, and Takemasak) This year I want to have a Christmas Party, continue with the 30 Hour Famine, and to make our own Thanksgiving fun! Come join me on September 14th from 11-12 to help decide what new and exciting things we can do this year.

God calls us to be patient!

Abraham was 100 years old and his wife Sarah was 90 when she gave birth to Isaac, the son that God had promised them some twenty-four years earlier! Twenty-four years! Yeah, I know that God’s timetable and ours are totally different; a year for us is the blink of an eye for Him. Still. Twenty-four years? Can you imagine waiting that long for anything, especially a son? I’ve grown impatient after I’ve waiting for a traffic light to change from red to green after, what, maybe a minute?

We discussed how we are SO excited for the end of the school year and summer!  However, we have to be patient! Patience is defined as ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with a delay.  Does that mean just sitting by and waiting for summer to come without complaint?  I believe that when God calls us to be patient, we have to wait calmly, but we also need to continue to go about our lives doing our best and our best should be to glorify God.  How can you glorify god while you patiently wait for summer to come?

Here is what I would like you to do...
1. Read the story of Abraham and Sarah in the bible.  The story can be found in Genesis chapters 15, 17, 18, and 21.  However, if you click on Abraham and Sarah's name it will take you to the story.

2. Watch the Veggie Tales video below.

3.  Comment below on how you are going to glorify God as you patiently wait for summer.  If you are having trouble commenting, please email me your response.

A hunting we will go...

The J-walkers met on Sunday, February 24th. To kick off the Easter season we went on an egg hunt...a resurrection egg hunt that is!  We found all 12 eggs, with the exception of the MIA egg #10.  (That's okay, Laura made a new one.)  After we had all the eggs, lined them up in order.  We opened each egg in order to find an item that reminded us of the story of the resurrection of Christ.  The last egg, having nothing inside to remind us that when the stone was rolled away, Jesus was gone...He had risen!
